Everybody and their mom want to be an entrepreneur these days. I get it. Who wants to work for "the man?"
That's why I launched my own online fitness coaching business several years ago. Because I got tired of working 12 hour days at the gym that I owned.
Yes, you read that correctly.
I was working for the (wo)man. Myself. And those long days and even shorter nights burned me out.
So here we are. Talking about what it's like to own your own business.
It's time to have an honest conversation about this stuff.
Because take it from me.
There's nothing sexy about being an entrepreneur.
It's not for the weak.
Let's dive in, shall we?
When you own a business, you can't clock in, work 40 hours a week and then collect your paycheck from your boss. Income isn't guaranteed. There is no clock to punch.
The safety net of having a safe, cushy job doesn't exist in the land of entrepreneurship. You cut your own paycheck. That's if you have any clients.
And if you don't have any clients yet? You better find some fast. Because here's another fun reality of owning a business. Whether you're making tons of money or none at all, you're still responsible for paying all the business expenses.
That's right. You heard it here first.
When the bills are due, you're the one that's expected to pay them, regardless of whether or not you've made any money.
I know. It's a whacky world we live in these days.
There could be countless fires that pop up throughout any given day. Not literal ones (hopefully). One of your employees might be dealing with a severe issue in their personal life, affecting their performance at work.
You might have unexpectedly lost a couple of clients yesterday, and today you're racking your brain on how to find new ones to replace them.
It's an endless list.
Imagine the stress. Day in and day out. You're carrying the entire weight of the world on your shoulders.
Are you ready for that?
Ok, I'm sure I've scared you enough. If you're still reading this and thinking to yourself, "I can do this," well then, you might have the right attitude to make it in this game.
Being an entrepreneur, especially an online fitness coach, takes a ton of work. It's not cool or sexy.
But here's the thing…
If you're willing to do the work and learn quickly from your mistakes, then there will be several enormous payoffs waiting for you.
You'll make a massive impact on the lives of countless clients you've worked with. You can pad your bank account. Live life on your own terms.
And yes, my friends, you can finally achieve the freedom you were looking for when you decided to become your own boss.
